What Is I am a terrorist?

I am a terrorist is an itch created by Demi Nandhra.

A female soldier, demands to be arrested…”didn’t you fucking hear me , I am a fucking terrorist ? I am part of an terrorist organisation…… I am part of it !!”

After three tours in Afghanistan, Zara decides to confess she is part of the enemy.  She is arrested and held on terror and deserting charges, as she explains how she came to be part of the organisation it becomes clear that the enemy is hard to recognize.

A terrorist has many definitions depending on what organisation, politician or  newspaper you speak to  it will vary, but we can agree that it is something like…. “a political movement that uses terror as a weapon to achieve its goals” so how do we define what organisation are and aren’t terrorists because to me any political movement usually has violence in bedded somewhere …this itch is the start of exploring…what we as Britain decide is terrorism and what isn’t.  killing in the name of our country is fine, but terrorism is what we fight…I see the irony in that slightly. Terrorism in the last decade has become the word that is used to justify arresting a photographer, stop and searching anyone, obeying  any requests from police , all under section 44 of  the 2000 terrorism act. the word is thrusted upon us and we accept the associations with it. this itch explores changing the associations.

Artistic team;At the moment is just me; Demi Nandhra. I am contemporary theatre artist, work includes installation art, site specific, writing.

  • A slot will help to get criticism of the idea…finding out what the subject matter really means to an audience, an unknown audience.
  • Two questions wanting  answered : does it work as just one women piece ?
  • Does the performers colour of skin change your views and opinions of the work you have seen ?
  • Space chosen;  the new committee room. Wanting a small intimate space, but doesn’t have comfort or warmth in the room, this space seems to do this
